NAME: Kendra Rider
HOMETOWN: Stillwater
JOB TITLE: Richmond Elementary principal

When does the new school year start?

The first day of school is Aug. 19. Teachers officially report back on Aug. 15 but a lot of them are already working on their classrooms, getting them ready.  People will want to know Meet the Teacher Night is 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. Aug.18.

What changes are happening this year?

With the closing of the Early Childhood Center, we'll have two sections of pre-K, 40 students total, in our building. We're hoping to have room for two more sections next year after the fifth grade moves to the middle school but we were able to accommodate all the Richmond families this year except for a few that came in after the deadline.

I'm really excited to have the pre-Kin the building so they can be part of Richmond from the beginning.

We're happy that all the programs are still intact, even though some are at a different site, like the 3 and 4 -year-old program which moved to Sangre Ridge. We're also happy that all employees were placed within the district.

What are you looking forward to?

I'm happy to be working with Great Expectations, a program that develops character, behavior and citizenship in students. It helps children excel academically but also socially.

This is my first experience with it but Richmond was named a Great Expectations model school for the 11th year in a row.

Do you have any special plans or goals for this year?

I was an assistant principal at Skyline before being named interim principal at Richmond during the last school year.

I'm excited to start this school year with the teachers and students and I want to continue Richmond's history as a highachieving school. We are known for excellent student achievement and excellent student behavior. I want to keep that.

I'm just really excited to be here.

I grew up in Stillwater and attended Stillwater Public Schools. I'm in the position I am because of the foundation it gave me and I just want to give back.
